The gum factor

This is actually a habit, only children can get away with. If you want to chew a gum, don't do it in public, unless you are under fifteen. It is rude, it seems trashy and careless in a bad way, and it is anything but elegant. Even more if the mouth is wide open while chewing the sight is all the more unladylike. This is not only provoking for women, but also men are not to be seen chewing, since they started looking after their public image, too. Sure the re was a time when chewing a gum was actually a common spectacle, but now it tends to be as politically wrong as smoking a cigarette. That's why we prefer doing both privately.
