Η λύση.../The solution CYPRUS

Τιμώντας την Κύπρο, για άλλη μια φορά...

If any of you think that my absence resulted to the revelation of the real and fair solution of the Cyprus issue, unfortunately you are wrong. But, I was gone on vacation to the island of Cyprus, and in Santa Napa that really is not a family place to go for vacations but anyway, I had a great time and so did my family. This post is about what the real food in Cyprus is, and not what we beleive it is. A dear friend of my father took the time to show to us the archeological area of "KOYRION" even though things were quite difficult, because of the children. Afterwards he showed us two of the most beautiful villages that I ever saw in my life Tohni (Τόχνη) and Chirokitia (Χοιροκοιτία). Whoever has seen these villages, understands what I am talking about. Between these two villages there is a restaurant that in other circumstances I might have not considered. Lefteris, however, phoned them, told them how many we were (3 adults, a three year old and a two year old) and let them know we were coming. I never thought of eating the following:


omlet with zuchini,cyprus salad, home made ravioles, green and black olives with oregano, mushrooms made in red wine

caper leaves, and small dolmadakia which are stuffed vine leaves

eggs boiled and preserved into vinegar, haloumi, that is the traditional Cyprus cheese, tachini



and the only meat on the table was very small pieces of pork roasted.
The perfect finish was the famous pourekia that are stuffed with mizithra, a white soft cheese, fried and then they add ice sugar, I never found out how many I ate.

We drank KEO, their most common beer, that is not bad at all and had a great time at "Η ΛΥΣΗ" that means "THE SOLUTION" an occupied nowadays village. Hope they find it.
